After all of these years, Marilyn Monroe continues to be a beauty and style icon. I recreated three of Marilyn’s most iconic looks from a few of her most famous movie roles. Some of Monroe’s most well known outfits come from her films Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and The Seven Year Itch, and those are the movies I based my recreations:
The famous white dress from The Seven Year Itch
Pink dress from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Red Sequin dress from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
It took many months to find all the pieces to create each look, especially since her vintage looks are not one trend in everyday stores. There are costume stores that sell these dresses, but I wanted the recreation to look more real life like instead of a Halloween costume. These looks are great if you are going to a costume party, Halloween, retro festival or Hollywood inspired event.
Pink Dress:
The iconic pink dress form when Marilyn sings “Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend” has been one that many celebrities have recreated for their own looks. This outfit was my favorite one to recreate and also took me a while to find a similar dress. All of the accessories were easier to find but took me a few tries of ordering pink gloves to get the right shade of pink. And of course the diamonds! This look would not be complete without lots of fun sparkly jewelry.

White Dress:
Marilyn’s most famous scene is from The Seven Year Itch where she stands over a New York Subway grate while wearing a flowy white dress. For the white dress, I found a white halter dress from Unique Vintage. This look is really easy to recreate and you just need to find a flowy white dress and heels. For the classic Marilyn Monroe hair, I styled my hair in overnight pin curls. To complete this look I found large pearl and rhinestone earrings.

Red Dress
This red dress recreation is another look I borrowed from the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. The movie has so many extravagant outfits, it was hard to choose just one! This dress was the hardest to find out of all three looks that I recreated. For this look I needed an all red sequin floor length dress with long sleeves and a v-neck. Many stores did not have anything even close so I ended up finding this one on Poshmark. Unfortunately the dress does not have a label, so I am not sure what brand it came from. I used the same necklace and bracelet from my pink dress outfit since they were similar. For the shoes, I was lucky that I already had a pair of head heels in my closet.
